NEW YORK -- Jean-Claude Van Damme comes into the room wearing
Italian pants and a luxurious bright green shirt in a paisley pattern
that comes at you. You might not want to wear that shirt in the
rougher parts of town, but Jean-Claude Van Damme doesn't have to
worry, despite those large rimless glasses that make him look like a
dreaming young poet.
The bad guys in Jean-Claude Van Damme movies might underestimate
him; that's part of the plot. "I have to be able to wear a suit,"
Van Damme says, explaining why he doesn't do body building anymore;
he works out to keep limber. "I don't want it to look like no one
