Article: Deal pleases area's Haitian-Americans For Haitian-Americans, a sense of relief

Whether or not they supported exiled President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haitian-Americans in the Boston area last night hailed the avoidance of a military invasion of the Caribbean nation.

But most of those interviewed last night worried about the terms of the agreement that gave Lt. Gen. Raoul Cedras and his allies until Oct. 15 to surrender power.

"I think they could have gotten Cedras to leave tomorrow and should have gotten Cedras to leave tomorrow," said Alix Cantave of Roslindale, director of the Haitian Studies Association at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

"You don't know what's going to happen in four weeks."
