By the merest of coincidences, two films that bracket the '60s,
culturally speaking, are being revived today -- "Easy Rider" (1969)
at the Brattle Theatre and "My Fair Lady" (1964) at the Cheri. The
first, about two motorcyclists in search of the real America, sent
the message that the system was crumbling. "My Fair Lady," the
Broadway musical landmark hit based on Shaw's assimilationist fairy
tale, "Pygmalion," reassured moviegoing America, simply through its
high-gloss style, that everything was running smoothly. "Easy Rider"
not only made Dennis Hopper's reputation as director and actor --
