Gal In A Ruckus gave the Kentucky Oaks a surprise ending today,
rebuffing unlucky favorite Urbane through the Churchill Downs stretch
for a 1 1/4-length victory at 34 to 1.
Unproven in stakes races and untried at a mile and an eighth, Gal
In A Ruckus showed a bold new side before an Oaks Day-record crowd of
87,383. On or near the lead throughout, she paid $70 to win and
earned $235,040 from a purse of $361,600. The Canadian-bred filly had
made $34,560 going in, with two minor victories in four starts.
