Common sense prevailed yesterday. The Big East will create a split
feed Saturday to enable the Boston College-West Virginia game to be
on Channel 5 at noon.
Virginia-Virginia Tech, pitting fierce rivals who are nationally
ranked, had been scheduled to be the sole Big East telecast, but one
school is not in the conference, and who really cares about the game
outside that state?
"We talked to Channel 5 and some other places," said Joe Gomes of
the Big East in explaining the split, which was used once before this
season, Oct. 22, when Miami-West Virginia was added to the Rutgers-BC
coverage. (Whenever the Big East can show the Hurricanes, it does.)
