Politics in cyberspace? Internet bulletin board may provide new private venue

Politicians who enjoy cementing votes and sealing deals behind
closed doors may now have a new, equally private venue --
government-reserved cyberspace.
The Massachusetts Municipal Association's private Internet
bulletin board system, launched in June and believed to be the first
of its kind in the country, provides "members only" access to
government information ranging from tax rates to recently passed
legislation.
It also allows public officials to communicate with each other in
an electronic environment immune to public eavesdropping or detailed
record keeping.
