Article: Turkey Pulls 3,000 Troops From N. Iraq; Move Does Not Signal Full- Scale Withdrawal

Turkey has withdrawn 3,000 of the 35,000 troops it sent into northern Iraq last month to attack Turkish Kurdish separatists, the Turkish government announced today.

The incursion has drawn sharp criticism and calls for withdrawal from Western governments. Turkish officials stressed that the pullout proved its forces had no plans to permanently occupy Iraqi territory, but that it was not the start of a full-scale withdrawal.
