It began yesterday with the national anthem and ended with three
police helicopters flying overhead, outlined against a brilliant
azure sky as taps played mournfully.
Between those gestures of respect, high-ranking local and national
law enforcement officials gathered in front of police headquarters at
the D.C. Municipal Center to pay tribute to six Washington area
officers killed in the line of duty in the last two years and two who
died in previous years.
During the 16th annual regional memorial service for law
enforcement officers, sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police
Auxiliary, friends and colleagues of the officers said they
sacrificed their lives in an honorable battle against ...
