Sometime in the next few weeks -- probably shortly after the NCAA
convention in San Diego early next month -- the Big East will decide
on its configuration for the rest of the decade.
Will it be one monstrous 13-team league with a staggered schedule
or will it break into divisions of seven and six teams?
That might not seem like such a big deal, but it's important to
the teams involved, so much so that the coaches and presidents of the
conference schools have debated the issue since the Big East
announced its move from 10 to 12 and then 13 teams, with the
inclusion of Notre Dame last spring.
Having a 13-team league is in many ways difficult to work. With
10 teams, home and away games ...
