For the first time in nearly two months, the Washington Capitals
find themselves with a losing streak. Goaltender Jim Carey has his
first in the NHL as well, though he prevented a far worse beating
than the Capitals could have endured tonight.
The Capitals gave the high-octane Pittsburgh Penguins too many
offensive chances and too many power plays in a 3-1 loss before a
near-sellout crowd of 16,624 at Civic Arena.
After a scoreless first period, the Penguins tallied twice in the
second, at the end of which they had 27 shots on goal -- more than
the Capitals normally allow in an entire game. And the Capitals
committed a whopping 12 penalties on the night, resulting in six
Pittsburgh power ...
