Article: Tugboat tug of war MDC, preservationists clash on fate of historic vessel

The 65-year-old tugboat Luna, a leaky National Historic Landmark owned by the Metropolitan District Commission, has sat either submerged or in drydock for almost 3 years, suffered a chainsaw-toting marine surveyor and cost taxpayers an estimated $282,000 -- so far.

The MDC is a begrudging foster parent that has basically wanted out. Preservationists bent on saving the tug say the MDC is planning to demolish the ship to rid itself of a never-ending responsibility.
