Article: Costs of construction rise during 4th quarter

Increases in building-material prices and construction-trade insurance rates accelerated the rate of increase of construction costs in the fourth quarter of 1994, according to a company that tracks construction-cost trends.

E.H. Boeckh, based in Milwaukee, said that stronger-than-expected housing starts helped support increases in construction costs.

The firm said that during the fourth quarter the national average cost of construction for all building types rose 1 percent. The average cost of industrial construction rose 0.9 percent; commercial and residential construction costs each rose 1.2 percent.
