Because Carlo Broschi, the 18th-century castrato singer known as
Farinelli, was himself such an exotic and sensationalistic figure,
you'd think that creating a dull movie out of his flamboyant life
would be next to impossible. Think again.
Directed by Gerard Corbiau, "Farinelli" centers primarily on the
vampiric relationship between Carlo (the heavy-lidded Stefano
Dionisi) and his elder sibling, Riccardo (Enrico Lo Verso), a
composer who writes music specifically designed to showcase his
brother's exquisite voice. As a musician, Riccardo is merely
adequate, but because of the unique qualities of Carlo's singing --
not to mention his substantial value as a curiosity -- the brothers
