Jeremiah V. Murphy is a retired Globe reporter and
columnist who lives in Rockport.
ROCKPORT -- It was 10 a.m. Sunday and the sky was clear and the
people sat in their cars and waited for Ted Tarr of Rockport to show
up.
Then a strange car that looked like an Army tank rolled on to
the Whistle Stop Mall parking area and Tarr emerged. He wore a thin
tan jacket and conventional shirt and trousers, but no hat. It was
still cold, but Tarr didn't seem to mind.
Tarr was five minutes late. For the last 20 years he has led
Sunday morning walks through Rockport and Gloucester woods. There
were 13 women and three men present. They came from Peabody and
Newton and Manchester-by-the-Sea and ...
