Gerard Corbiau's "Farinelli" is a gorgeous disappointment. If it
had merely adequate scripting to go along with its fabulous visuals
and arresting soundtrack, it would have been one of the best movies
of the year -- and the first to avoid turning ludicrous in depicting
a classical music star. But no. The delights of "Farinelli" are
strictly for the eye and ear as it limns the story of the castrato
Carlo Broschi (1705-82), whose stage name was a tribute to ...
