Article: Carpenter older and much wiser

Bobby Carpenter spent yesterday afternoon on the Garden ice with three injured New Jersey teammates and assistant coaches Dennis Gendron and Larry Robinson. He skated smoothly, distributed efficient passes and unleashed lefthanded slap shots for an hour.

But he is not prepared to play at full speed. He is recovering from a deep thigh bruise that either will improve enough to allow him to play against the Bruins tomorrow or devolve into a calcified condition that could threaten his career.
