Article: NRA says Bush resignation tied to '92 campaign

PHOENIX -- Leaders of the National Rifle Association, wrapping up a weekend conference where they lashed out at President Clinton and other opponents, yesterday said that former President Bush's recent resignation from the NRA was motivated by the group's refusal to endorse him in his failed 1992 campaign.

"George Bush has been feuding with the NRA since 1992, when we decided we couldn't back him," said NRA vice president Neal Knox in an interview with the Globe. "He's been biding his time since then, waiting for the right time to kick us in the shins."
