Article: Blue Cross expected to cut 500 jobs

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts is expected to eliminate between 500 and 800 jobs beginning next month as part of an ongoing effort to cut $25 million from its 1995 budget, sources close to the company said yesterday.

Up to 14 percent of Blue Cross' 5,600 employees will be affected, said the sources. Blue Cross plans to begin handing out pink slips within the next two weeks, starting in its finance department, they said.

Blue Cross officials would not confirm the number of jobs to be cut.
