Mother Teresa of Calcutta will attend a special public Mass in
Newton on Thursday, a day after she visits a New Bedford church and
convent, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Boston said yesterday.
Cardinal Bernard Law will offer the Mass at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at
Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington St., Newton, said
John B. Walsh, archdiocesan spokesman.
Rev. Walter Cuenin, pastor of the church, said Mother Teresa will
address the congregation following communion.
He said his church was chosen for Mother Teresa's visit because
work is being done on the Cathedral of the Holy Cross. Our Lady's
church seats about 1,500 and is one of the larger churches in the
diocese.
