The National Merit Scholarship Corp. recently announced the 2,000
winners of its National Merit Scholarships. The scholarships are
single-payment awards of $2,000 funded mostly by National Merit
funds. Last month, the Globe published names of the recipients of
college-sponsored and corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarships.
National Merit is a nonprofit corporation that conducts the
scholarship program. Winners are chosen based on their performance
on the PSAT/NMSQT test, school activities and recommendations from
their principal. Here, listed alphabetically by town, are the New
England winners of the National Merit Scholarships.
