TANGLEWOOD FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC

LENOX -- The final concert of the 1995 Tanglewood Festival of
Contemporary Music was concerned with first and last things. All
music ultimately addresses the spirit; Wednesday night's
extraordinary program consisted of works directly concerned with this
fact, with revealing the spiritual world in sound.
Olivier Messiaen's "Un Sourire" ("A Smile") was the composer's
final orchestral work, written in homage to Mozart in commemoration
