TAUNTON -- Felix, the third storm to churn out of the Atlantic
Ocean with hurricane-force winds in 1995, turned out to be a
rambunctious pussycat, not the snarling monster it could have been.
But the hurricane season is by no means over -- the peak period
historically runs from mid-August until mid-September -- and some
computer models predict three, four or more additional hurricanes
before the season winds down at the end of October.
Even before the remnants of Felix disappeared, tropical storm
Gabrielle had formed, lashed northeast Mexico with torrential rains
and dissipated. It never reached hurricane force, and damage was
minimal. By midweek, three more tropical storms had brewed up ...
