NEW YORK -- OK, so it's not exactly Jimmy Connors revisited.
Just seems that way.
Boris Becker in 1995 is no Jimmy Connors in 1991.
For one thing, he's a ripe 27. Connors turned 39 on his way to
the US Open semifinals that year.
But the grizzled and still-booming Boris is the ranking men's
veteran here. He has 43 career singles titles, most among active
players.
And while he may have slipped a bit in the rankings for a while,
Becker never disappeared and has worked his way back to No. 4. So
it's no surprise he is still standing in the Open semifinals, though
it took a wild, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (8-6) marathon win
over John -- er, Patrick -- McEnroe yesterday to do it.
