Article: President of troubled Dana-Farber steps down

Christopher T. Walsh resigned abruptly yesterday as president of the beleaguered Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in the latest twist in a seven-month saga of institutional turmoil.

Since last spring, Walsh and his management team have struggled to deal with the revelation that two Dana-Farber breast cancer patients received massive overdoses of chemotherapy last November. The overdoses, which resulted in the death of Globe health columnist Betsy A. Lehman and serious heart damage in a second, unidentified patient, opened a door on clinical and administrative failings that the institute has openly acknowledged.
