The experiment to syndicate Matt Siegel's morning show on WXKS-FM (107.9) didn't pan out, and management has decided to pull the plug.

Last April the show started airing on stations in Charlotte, N.C., Bangor and Portland, Maine, and Providence. Constraints on making the show less local proved ill-fated for both the stations and for Siegel.

"We took a lot of the local flavor out, and listeners noticed it," Siegel said yesterday, who was obviously relieved that the experiment is over. "So are we going to take the risk of running off truly loyal listeners and realize it's not worth it? Not to sound corny, but we really did pull the plug on syndication for Boston listeners."
