With Starbucks coffee near aisle one, live goldfish in aisle nine
and baby-sitting services below the produce department, the newest
Star Market making its debut today is more of a shopping mall than a
grocery store.
But to grocery industry analysts and consumers, the Commonwealth
Avenue store in Allston is an 80,000-square-foot answer to the
complaints of modern shoppers: how to find more time, what to do with
the children while you shop and where to get a good cup of coffee.
The concept is a new variation on an old theme: one-stop shopping
for the health-conscious parent with no time to make curried chicken.
