Article: Beth Israel and Lahey agree to form alliance Plan to seek health care contracts together

Ending months of speculation, Beth Israel HealthCare and Lahey Hitchcock Clinic yesterday said they will jointly vie for managed care contracts.

Beth Israel and Lahey have been in discussions since early this year to develop an alliance. In March, the two decided against merging, but said they would still work together in looser arrangements. Yesterday's announcement represents the near-term culmination of those talks.

"We will have better focus if we develop our networks separately," conceded Lahey chief executive Bruce W. Steinhauer at a press conference yesterday announcing the "Lahey Hitchcock Beth Israel Managed Care Partnership."
