Loath as I am to get in between John Kerry and Bill Weld as they
position themselves for their moon pie fight, I break a self-imposed
rule of two weeks' duration to set the context of the argument about
a $5 million spending cap.
The rest of you avert your gaze from two subsequent paragraphs as
I whisper confidentially to the pair concerned:
John: If you agree to this spending cap, you should have your head
examined. You will have been snookered bigtime. Nobody who's
served 12 years in the US Senate should be so gullible as to fall for
this ruse. The GOP national machine would sneak in here through the
back door and crucify you. Don't be a rube; it's a fair fight, he's
a heavyweight ...
