Was Surrealism misogynist and patriarchal, or subversive and
liberating? Decide for yourself at "The Body Politic: Surrealism on
Both Sides of the Atlantic, 1924-1947," at Harvard's Busch-Reisinger
Museum through Jan. 7. Curator Peter Nisbet, who organized the show
with Harvard literature professor Susan Suleiman, believes that one
reason for the current resurgent interest in Surrealism is its focus
on sexuality, especially sexuality's darker side, which is also a
particular concern of contemporary artists.
Certainly the publishing world is also taking increased notice of
Surrealism, with a barrage of recent books: Martica Sawin's
