It is quite widely known that Nation of Islam leader Louis
Farrakhan pursued a career as a calypso singer when he returned to
his Roxbury neighborhood after finishing college in North Carolina.
A talented violinist and singer, his stage handle during the '50s was
"The Charmer." Rush Limbaugh still mockingly refers to Farrakhan as
"Calypso Louie."
However, virtually no recordings have surfaced from Farrakhan's
singing career. A few months ago, the Manchester Guardian reported
that the British Broadcasting Corp. had located a Farrakhan song
commemorating America's first sex-change operation (!) and printed
the lyrics:
With dis modern surgery
They change him from him to she
