Boston Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Malcolm Lowe injured his back shoveling snow last week, which forced some changes in the program for the BSO Chamber Players concert Sunday afternoon. Lowe was missed, but nearly everything turned out for the best.

The principal disappointment of the afternoon turned out to be one of the scheduled works, a Brass Quartet by the Danish composer Wilhelm Ramsoe (1837-1895). This is the kind of piece that would never be heard any more if it had been written for string quartet; because the brass repertory is more limited, small brass ensembles turn to composers like Ramsoe.
