The Dallas Cowboys came to Oklahoma City to sign autographs and
shake hands and wish people well. But yesterday's appearance was
different from most. The handshakes were heartfelt. The players
signed their autographs, then took a minute to chat. And they were
the ones who walked away impressed.
"We're the fans today," running back Emmitt Smith said. "These
guys are the heroes, the ultimate role models."
The Cowboys -- three dozen players, Coach Barry Switzer and owner
Jerry Jones -- spent about three hours in Oklahoma City to visit with
rescue workers, law enforcement officers and volunteers who have been
part of the recovery from last week's bombing at the Alfred P. Murrah
Federal Building.
