CAMBRIDGE -- Boston Baroque deserves our thanks for presenting
operas of Mozart in concert form to a public that doesn't get to see
staged performances very often. Over the years the group has
presented original-instrument performances of "Don Giovanni," "The
Magic Flute" and "The Marriage of Figaro"; next season "Don Giovanni"
returns.
Last weekend Martin Pearlman and Boston Baroque offered "The
Abduction from the Seraglio." The piece ought to make a considerable
effect in concert performance because most stagings of it get in the
way of the music, ...
