MOULTONBOROUGH, N.H. -- Long Island landowners and state fish and game officials will decide this summer how to trim a herd of about 100 starving deer on the island, but no action on the decision is anticipated for months.

Residents have begged for relief from the overpopulated deer herd on the island, which is connected by bridge to the Moultonborough Neck peninsula.

Starving deer, standing on their hind legs to reach green boughs, are destroying the island habitat, residents say.
