Penelope Houston is not the first to confront this question, but
she is answering it here and now: What does a punk rocker do as she
grows older and, perhaps, wiser? And at 38, with her first
major-label album, "Cut You," just out, is this former full-tilt
singer-screamer for the Avengers still a punk?
"I think the reason I got into it at 19 was punk was the most
exciting thing happening," Houston says by telephone, following a
rehearsal in San Francisco. "But I have a natural snottiness and an
attitude. I've always been that way and I still have that.
Hopefully, you can hear that on the album."
Indeed you can, but "Cut You" is a more mature, refined, complex
