Not even Roger Clemens can take anything for granted this season.
If he and the Red Sox hope to rebound from their worst starts ever,
both must eliminate the kind of mistakes that cropped up last night
at Fenway Park.
It wasn't a case of booming bats that enabled the Kansas City
Royals to grind out a 4-3 victory before a rain-drenched crowd of
22,385. Mostly, it was a matter of costly walks, missed
opportunities on defense and a matter of indifference in the ninth
inning that wound up producing the winning run.
Clemens struck out 11 -- the 61st time he's reached double figures
in his career -- allowed five hits and walked three. But two of
those walks -- to Keith Lockhart in the third and ...
