CAMBRIDGE -- John Kenneth Galbraith holds open the porch door for
a visitor to his cottage and chats about the daffodils popping in the
yard. Even then, this confidant of US presidents and Harvard
professor of nearly half a century does not lose the bearing of a man
who has wielded much influence in his 87 years. And considerable
charm.
Compared with such literary achievements as his controversial
1950s bestseller, "The Affluent Society," and two clever novels of
political and financial intrigue, Galbraith's new book seems tiny.
But in its 152 pages he has laid out a big agenda.
