HINGHAM -- Spring has sprung. Finally!
For the first five weeks of spring, Old Man Winter wouldn't
let go and put a damper on all our outdoor athletic activities,
especially baseball, a rite of passage for American youngsters.
A ballfield is a magical place where a youngster's self esteem
can soar with that wonderfully clean, solid sound of bat on ball, a
hard hit ball that they will remember for eternity. It is also where
youngsters learn to survive disappointment such as a strikeout or an
error.
As they play baseball or softball many youngsters make
that first best friend or develop a relationship with an adult who is
not a parent or a relative.
Every April this rite of passage ...
