The Woman Who Does Everything More Beautifully Than You is the
name of a recurring character in Nichole Hollander's "Sylvia," a
comic strip that is widely syndicated. TWWDEMBTY dresses impeccably.
She also receives thank-you notes from HMOs for cutting medical costs
by curing the sick with herbs from her garden which, I'm sure, she
grows from seed.
Martha Stewart, of course, is the great TWWDEMBTY of our era; in
the March issue of her magazine Living, we are breezily informed:
"Invest in $25 worth of seeds, and you can have bouquets for
arrangements all summer." Then we are told what to grow, but not
how. It's a difficult article to read without feeling both lazy and
ignorant.
