LONDON -- The much-larger plate that goes to the winner of the Wimbledon women's singles championship was in Arantxa Sanchez Vicario's hands for a few seconds after her match against Steffi Graf yesterday.

But that was only because Sanchez Vicario was joshing with the capacity crowd of 13,120 at Centre Court.

For Sanchez Vicario to keep the winner's plate that she had grabbed out of Graf's hands in front of all those folks, she would have had to have beaten Graf on the court, something Sanchez Vicario couldn't quite accomplish.

Graf won, 6-3, 7-5, claiming her 100th singles championship (behind only Martina Navratilova's 167 and Chris Evert's 157) and her 20th Grand Slam singles title, ...
