The debate over building a convention center is finally starting
to focus on the key questions that still need answers:
Who should pay for it, and who should run it?
That's one way to assess this week's news that House Speaker
Thomas Finneran chose Karl E. Case, a Wellesley College economics
professor who also runs a Cambridge real estate company, to represent
him on the task force assigned to examine the matter.
It also provides context for the even more intriguing speculation
that Fidelity Investments, in partnership with John Drew Co., might
be thinking about absorbing the cost of building a convention
facility.
