Richard Wendorf, head librarian at Harvard's Houghton Library, has been named director and librarian of the Boston Athenaeum, replacing Rodney Armstrong, who has held the top post at the venerable Boston library and collecting institution for 23 years. Wendorf, besides heading Harvard's rare book library since 1989, has taught English and art history and served as an associate dean at Northwestern University.
