Emmanuel Music has launched one of the largest projects in a
history full of ambitious efforts -- a 51-concert, seven-year survey
of the major vocal music, chamber music and piano music of Franz
Schubert. This does not exhaust the possibilities -- artistic
director Craig Smith has decided to pick his way carefully through
Schubert's juvenilia, so Emmanuel Music will perform only about 80
percent of the music the composer wrote in the relevant categories.
Schubert died at 31, but he found time to write a lot of orchestral
and choral music and more than a dozen operas.
