Oliver's Twist, who finished second to Timber Country in the
Preakness Stakes, ran poorly in the Ohio Derby Saturday primarily
because of lung congestion, his owner said yesterday.
Charles Oliver said an examination revealed blood and mucus in the
respiratory system of Oliver's Twist after the 6-to-5 favorite
faltered badly through the Thistledown stretch and was eased to the
wire by Alberto Delgado. Petionville beat Dazzling Falls by a head to
win.
Initial reports that Oliver's Twist suffered a leg injury proved
incorrect, according to Oliver. Delgado also said that Oliver's Twist
seemed to jog soundly as he pulled him up on the hot and humid
afternoon.
