Bread and cheese go together naturally -- witness the ever-
popular
grilled cheese sandwich. Cheese already baked into, or onto, a loaf
of bread becomes a meal-in-a-slice, a toothsome combination of yeasty
bread and flavorful cheese.
Cheese bread makes a great hors d'oeuvre -- all you need to do is
slice and serve. We found two cheese breads that are absolutely
delicious, and very different from each other.
Iggy's Breads of the World makes a to-die-for cheese longette.
This is a long baguette-shaped loaf of their ficelle dough, split
along the length of the top and spread with black olive paste and
pine nuts, covered with smoked raffumo cheese from Italy, then baked.
