If you watch Disney's new live-action version of the 1961 classic
"101 Dalmatians," which opens Wednesday, and have the urge to buy
something spotted, try a hyena: It would be easier to handle.
OK, so that's a slight exaggeration, but Dalmatian experts and dog
trainers are cringing at the thought of thousands of parents dashing
from movie theater to pet shop to purchase a spotted dog that is
definitely not for the novice.
"Don't make a 10-year commitment based on a 90-minute movie,"
advises trainer and author Sarah Wilson.
Though, obviously, people do.
There were 8,170 Dalmatian puppies registered with the American
Kennel Club in 1986; in 1991, the year "101 Dalmatians" was last ...
