It's 6:50 p.m. in the Theater District and a woman in a mink coat
resigns herself to dinner of a hotdog and fries at Fuddruckers on
Stuart Street.
One block away, the upstairs dining area at Boston Market, where
meatloaf is one of the the nightly specials, is full of well-dressed
patrons, some of whom have arrived in chauffeured limousines.
The wait at the nearby Brew Moon Restaurant & Microbrewery: Two
hours.
The traffic, with all the cabs impatiently lined up, is at a
standstill. Horns are blaring. Police officers direct pedestrians,
who walk and stop en masse according to the staccato whistle
commands.
