Article: U.S. Waits for Cuba to Decide on Vesco; Returning Fugitive Would Be `Immoral,' Castro Tells CNN Officials

Cuban President Fidel Castro has told Cable News Network executives that it would be "immoral" to send fugitive financier Robert L. Vesco to face fraud and drug charges in the United States. But U.S. diplomatic officials said yesterday they were unsure whether Castro meant he would allow Vesco to remain in Cuba.

CNN reported yesterday that Castro made the remark during a private dinner in Havana with visiting CNN news executives. As reported by some guests, Castro said it would be immoral to use Vesco, who has been sought by this country for 22 years on fraud charges, as a pawn in U.S.-Cuban relations.
