Catherine B. (Bauer) Lyons of Cambridge, long associated with the
Nieman journalism fellowships at Harvard University, died Thursday
in her home. She was 90.
She was born in Springfield, Ohio, and graduated from Simmons
College in 1928.
During World War II she worked at Harvard's American Defense,
Harvard Group.
In 1947, she became an assistant to Louis M. Lyons, curator of the
Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard. The two were married in
1950.
Mrs. Lyons, who was best known by her nickname, Totty, helped with
classes of Nieman fellows at Harvard and also helped her husband
prepare news broadcasts at WGBH-TV from the 1950s to the 1970s.
