ATLANTA -- The signs are everywhere. People, places and
situations in this World Series furnish frightening flashbacks for
Boston's baseball brethren. Over and over again, we are reminded of
that night in New York, 10 years ago tomorrow, a date that will live
in infamy for citizens of Red Sox Nation.
Oct. 25, 1986, was the night the larger forces unleashed an
impossible chain of events that led to the cataclysmic, apocalyptic
fall of the Boston Red Sox. It was the night the Red Sox blew the
World Series and set a standard for frustration against which all
future folds will be measured. It was the night the ground ball
trickled through the legs of Bill Buckner and into hardball history.
